  • Bill Hinkley was a beloved friend and mentor who taught guitar, mandolin and fiddle at the West Bank School of Music for almost 40 years. Bill sadly passed away in 2010 but his impact on our local music community lives on in all who had the good fortune to know and learn from Bill. West Bank School of Music is proud to continue Bill’s commitment to those inspired to learn American roots music with the Bill Hinkley Scholarship.

The Bill Hinkley Scholarship provides a full year’s worth of private instruction to student(s) that have demonstrated dedication to learning American roots music.

Applications must be submitted on or before November 1st. Decisions are made by the Bill Hinkley Scholarship Committee and will be announced in time to begin lessons in January.

If you are chosen as a scholarship student, you will be asked to perform at the Bill Hinkley Tribute Concert and Scholarship Fundraiser the following year and submit a one page single spaced reaction to your experience.
